Myth

It is a myth that an administrative discharge is automatically upgraded after six months.  That is not true there no automatic upgrade.

You can apply for a discharge upgrade from the day after the date of discharge on the DD214 and for a further 15 years from that date.

If you fail to apply for an upgrade during that 15 year period you will not be able to get an upgrade through the discharge review board.  You must then apply to the board for correction of military records.

4. Date of discharge, shown on DD 214? If you do not have your DD 214, you can obtain it FREE when you submit an SF 180.  There are some on-line sites that charge for this information, you can get your military record at no cost.
5. Date of Discharge. This is very important because of the 15 year time limit.

7. What is in Blocks 23 through 28 on your DD 214?
8. Do you have your service record/jacket and your medical record?
